Custom Community Registration Addin - CS 2.1

written by Rick Reszler on Saturday, August 19 2006

Michael Trefry from Custom Community has re wrote his registration addin for Community Server 2.1 and it's available for both ASP.NET 2 as well as ASP.NET 1.1 in my opinion this really should be in the CS core because it's a much needed addition especially for large community sites, I have added it to my site and you can try it out here if you like just sign up to see it in action.

What does it do you ask? Well I will quote what Michael has written about it at Custom Community.

What is the Registration Addin?
The Custom Community Systems Registration Addin provides a customized method of registration allowing users to create their own blog and/or gallery during the registration process. While Community Server has a built in method of automatically creating blogs and galleries when a user registers, it falls short in that a user may have no interest in blogging, but just wants to participate in forums and comments. Additionally it fails to notify the user that this has happened for them, so even those who may be interested in having a blog or gallery may never know they have one at their disposal.

The Registration Addin fixes all of this by providing a choice to the user during registration, and if they choose to create a blog or gallery, it provides a streamlined process for the user to describe those sections. Additionally it finishes with a welcome screen providing links to common locations for the user to view their profile, blog, or gallery.

Additionally, there are controls added to the profile sidebar which display links to a users blog and gallery, with links to create them if the don’t yet have one.

What’s Changed in this Version?

Version 2.1 streamlines the creation of Blogs and galleries by bring the theme selection into the same screen as the Title, Description and Group. The theme selection now uses the familiar method used in the control panel.

The components of the Registration Addin have now been split out to provide greater reuse for future components and addons.

You can get it here and I highly recommend it!
